SCIENTIST

Overton Brown was only 16 years old when producer/performer Errol 'Don' Mais discovered and used the considerable talents of this adolescent dub whiz. Born in Kingston in 1960, the Scientist learned basic electronics from his TV repairman father, skills that made him very popular with the mobile DJs and their not-always-functioning sound systems. A friend suggested he visit the legendary dub producer/mixer King Tubby, not to remix records, but to get some transformers by which Scientist could build his own amplifiers. Soon the Scientist was an employee of Tubby's, fixing transformers and televisions, when one day, after an animated conversation about mixing records, Tubby challenged the Scientist to take a shot at remixing a record.

Brimming with adolescent bravado, Scientist took Tubby's challenge, and that led to an extended apprenticeship in dub experimentation under Tubby's guidance. It was while at Tubby's that the Scientist developed his idiosyncratic dub style, playful and very psychedelic, loaded with echo explosions and blasts of feedback, a sound that caught the attention of Don Mais, who overheard the Scientist at the mixing board during a visit to Tubby's studio. With Mais supervising the production, Scientist now all of 18, cut some wicked dub sides for the Roots Tradition label. At the end of the '70s, Scientist (now also referred to as "The Dub Chemist") left Tubby's to become the main engineer at Channel One Studios, and working with Henry 'Junjo' Lawes, cut some best-selling dub LPs, only to leave for the greener pastures of Tuff Gong in 1982. In 1985, Scientist moved to Silver Springs, Maryland, where he lives and works as a recording engineer.

DUBBLE STANDART

Dubblestandart transplanted dub from Jamacia to Vienna, where it teamed with the Select Cuts label to release plenty of experimental dub recordings. The collective began in 1990, when it released "Front of Enemies." Since then, Dubblestandart continued producing dub, emphasizing the vintage attributes of the style such as sound flexing tools, analog delays, and synthesizers. And, of course, the collective emphasized reggae beats, though it did experiment with many untraditional approaches.

Dubblestandart backed some of reggae's best on European tours, including Dillinger and Lee Perry. The collective continually emphasized a message in its music, usually one about music being a bridge to social equality. In 2002 Select Cuts released Streets of Dub, a collection of Dubblestandart songs remixed by an array of prominent experimental dub producers, along with a 12" EP release of the album track "10 Tons of Dope," which notably featured Dillinger on vocals.

The New Dubblestandart album CD: MARIJUANA DUB is released on Sept 1st. And features William S. Burroughs/Anthony B/Elephant Man/Lee Perry/David Lynch & Subatomic Sound System from NYC.

BRAINTHEFT

Braintheft are a live Darkdub/Dubstep four piece band from Ireland and France. The band was formed in September 2016 and travelled back in time to the year 2008 in Berlin. Developed from the sounds of Dubstep, Dub & Triphop, the creative force of Braintheft is constructing a wall of sound combined with Heavy Bass lines, Breaks, Samples and full live instrumentation. Braintheft's live set ranges from down tempo Dub/Psychedelic to heavier, darker styles of Dubstep/D'n'B and has impressed audiences everywhere.

LIVE:   In the cold dark Winter of 2008, Braintheft began performing at house party's and underground Dubstep nights in Berlin. It didn't take long for word to spread about this unique new "Psychedelic Dub Sound" and before long Braintheft were playing in some of Berlin's most respected music venues and festivals. By Summer 2009 the band began to collaborate with various vj's to set up a live Audio/Visual show using a mix of video and abstract footage to add to the live experience. After successful tours in Germany, Ireland, and Czech Rep. Braintheft are touring Europe relentlessly bringing filthy bass and breaks to those in need.
